- In this episode, we also couldn’t resist revisiting the infamous “Laura” story, a captivating tale involving a memorable neighbor from our time in Cape Charles. This anecdote is a fan favorite, filled with unexpected twists and turns. - Sherry also unearthed some truly vintage photos of me on a Segway, dating back over a decade. Back then, the advertising agency where I worked collaborated with a newly launched Segway tour company to create unique “shields” for advertising the State Fair. I was, perhaps inexplicably, chosen as one of the employees to be a “leg model” for these shields. The original photo of my legs, which was then printed and affixed to the Segways, was taken in one of our conference rooms while I was precariously balanced on an actual Segway – a feat that’s far harder than it sounds, as these machines aren’t exactly designed for stillness! The farm animals that eventually adorned the shields were, thankfully, added digitally later.
- Once the distinctive shields were completed and attached to the Segways, the creative team requested another photoshoot for the agency’s portfolio. This time, the aim was for me to pose again, essentially matching up with my own legs (wearing the same outfit, of course!) to visually demonstrate the clever gimmick of the shield. The expression captured on my face in those photos is a fascinating blend of profound embarrassment over the entire bizarre situation and intense concentration. I was desperately trying to maintain my balance and, more importantly, avoid accidentally rolling a very expensive piece of equipment into a nearby canal. It was, in essence, modeling at its most glamorous and nerve-wracking!
