And now for a behind-the-scenes story involving a ceramic animal. While we were working on this project, something unfortunate happened.

I’m not quite ready to write about it in detail, so here’s John’s account of how the mishap unfolded:

My favorite giant ceramic dog—rescued from HomeGoods three years ago for just $29—lost its face. In the words of a famous blogger: it sucked and then I cried.

There’s currently a candlelit vigil for our fallen friend. Goodbye, Mr. Ceramic Dog. You were a wonderful companion and required no cleanup. Then this happened.

I may try to glue him back together, though some fragments are very small. In the meantime, I’ll be found shaking, sighing, and asking “why?”

All kidding aside, I’ll survive.
