It has also never been dropped or involved in an accident, which is vital because even minor collisions can compromise a car seat’s structural integrity, necessitating replacement. These safety checks are critical for reusing any car seat. Beyond its structural integrity, the car seat boasts a neutral gray and green color scheme, making it perfectly suitable for either a boy or a girl. Furthermore, we’ve confirmed its expiration date, ensuring it shouldn’t expire until well after our baby boy has outgrown it (infant car seats are typically good for six years from their manufacture date, so checking this is a must). The thought of future road trips in the Altima quickly highlighted its limitations. So, after thorough research and several test drives, we traded it in for a 2014 Toyota Highlander. This vehicle felt like the optimal blend of family hauling capacity and DIY project hauling utility for our lifestyle. A key feature that sealed the deal was its collapsible third row, offering incredible flexibility for passenger space versus cargo room.
This was certainly a bit of a splurge for us, as we’ve historically been quite frugal with vehicle purchases, having driven our first Nissan past 170,000 miles and our second one over 100,000 miles before replacing them. However, by consistently saving on used vehicles in the past, this new purchase still fit comfortably within our budget and brought with it some much-desired features that we previously lacked. These include a back-up camera, which is a lifesaver for parking and maneuvering, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free communication and music, and (Sherry’s absolute favorite) heated seats, a luxury we’ll all appreciate during colder months. Plus, Clara is absolutely digging the little book caddy I rigged up for her in the back, making her journeys even more enjoyable. This car isn’t just transportation; it’s an investment in our family’s comfort, safety, and ability to embark on adventures together.
