The other night Sherry and I decided to challenge each other to create something using only objects found around the house. The twist was that the other person got to choose the items. It wasn’t meant to be a serious competition, but we did set a few simple ground rules:
- Use anything you like to make the craft, but the three items chosen by the opponent must be incorporated.
- The person doing the challenge may pick one of their own items before seeing the other two selected by their challenger.
- No spending money — everything must come from around the house.
- Whatever we make will be shared on the blog, no matter the result.
I lost rock-paper-scissors, so I went first. I exercised my right to pick one item and chose a bright piece of twine because I figured it would be useful and add color. Sherry, with dramatic flair, hid her two chosen objects beneath a bowl and then revealed them.
We kept up the theatrics by videotaping my attempt — which was a good call, because the final project is easier to understand on video than in description. You’ll need to watch the clip to see how it turned out, but here are a few teasers to set expectations:
- I enlisted Sherry’s help on camera — mostly as an excuse to show off her gorgeous baby bump.
- Both Burger and Clara make surprise appearances in the video.
- One of the objects Sherry chose was pulled from the fridge.
- Sherry strongly advised against keeping the sound effect I added at the end of the video, but I insisted — “my challenge, my video.”
The craft turned out better than I expected. Now the only question is where to display it so it doesn’t get ruined. And one more thing…

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS, Y’ALL. Don’t worry — I would never actually craft with mayonnaise. This was an attempt to top last year’s cringeworthy April Fools rap video with something equally ridiculous. If you’re curious about our past prank posts, we’ve done a few over the years and they’re part of our April Fools tradition. Hope you’re enjoying some harmless pranks (and much better music) today!
PS: We’ll be back later with a legitimate giveaway this afternoon. Promise — it’s real and worth over $500.
PPS: If you missed the time Sherry hung out with Eminem, you can find that whole story on the blog.
