When we created a custom mood board for Chantel in Canada a few months ago, we were eager to see the results. She’s returned with beautiful after photos and a lovely note:
Thank you again for all your help with our living room in January. We followed all of your advice to the letter (except for the pillows because they wanted to charge me $200 to ship to Canada). I hope our replacements are up to your standards! We love the transformation, and everyone who’s visited has loved it, too. I don’t know how you did it, but you managed to make it feel like a beachy summer day in our living room, even though there’s two feet of snow outside! And we hope you’re up for another transformation. We’ll be sending you before shots and a plea for help for our master bedroom later this week. Thanks again! – Chantel
We’re thrilled Chantel is so happy with the change. First, a reminder of what the room looked like before the makeover:

Chantel wanted “a beachy casual space” with green and blue accents to complement a large piece of art she already had above the sofa. Here’s the mood board we put together for her (more details are available on the original post):
And here’s the room after the mood board makeover:

A few thoughtful swaps made a big impact. Replacing the old leather sofa with an Ikea slipcovered sofa and painting the walls a calm blue shifted the room from stark white to a breezy, coastal feel. Painting the TV shelf white and adding another white piece beneath it helped the electronics blend into the room instead of dominating it. Introducing texture through the rug, the printed curtains, and woven table lamps on either side of the sofa reinforced the relaxed, chic look Chantel wanted.

She also followed our suggestion to paint the niche above the fireplace a slightly deeper blue to highlight the delicate mobile we recommended. That 3D piece anchors the small inset beautifully, giving the fireplace area a light, airy focal point.

The finishing touch was the pillow selection. The colors echo the room’s palette, and the stitched textures play off the printed curtains, tying the whole space together. The result is cohesive, comfortable, and unmistakably beachy.

Thanks for sharing the after photos, Chantel. With a room this inviting, you’d never guess there’s snow outside. What do you think of the transformation? Which element stands out to you—the mobile or the leafy curtains?
Update: We no longer have time to accept commissioned mood board clients (we now create general inspiration boards instead). If that changes in the future, we’ll announce it.
