A Warm Welcome: The Charming Entryway & Mini Mudroom

Stepping into Jeremy and Katie’s home, one is immediately greeted by an entryway that masterfully combines functionality with undeniable charm. Katie, with her innate talent for maximizing every inch of space, has crafted an adorable mini mudroom. This clever setup features a stylish ottoman, perfect for a quick perch or stowing away essentials, complemented by a few strategically placed coat hooks. It’s a testament to smart, space-saving design that even our furry friend, Burger, felt instantly at ease, making himself comfortable from the moment he scampered through the door. This welcoming zone sets the tone for the entire house, showcasing how simple, well-thought-out additions can create a practical and aesthetically pleasing first impression without sacrificing an ounce of style. It’s the ideal solution for keeping clutter at bay in a high-traffic area, proving that even the smallest spaces can be transformed into highly efficient and beautiful zones with a touch of DIY magic.

Elegance Redefined: The Posh Dining Room

Beyond the inviting entryway lies the dining room, a space that exudes an air of posh elegance while maintaining a surprisingly approachable and serene ambiance. This room is a masterful blend of soft blue accents, pristine white china, and thoughtfully selected beachy accessories, creating a harmonious and sophisticated setting for meals and gatherings. Every detail contributes to a serene coastal-chic vibe, making it feel both luxurious and incredibly comfortable. Katie’s secret weapon, we quickly discovered, is her blackbelt status as a sale shopper. Time and again, as we admired a stunning piece, we’d hear her casually remark, “Oh, this old thing? It was $1 at Goodwill,” or “Found it at TJ Maxx for three bucks.” This revelation sparked serious decor envy in us, highlighting her incredible ability to curate a high-end look using unbelievably budget-friendly finds. It’s a powerful reminder that exquisite taste doesn’t require an exorbitant budget; rather, it thrives on patience, resourcefulness, and a keen eye for hidden gems. The room speaks volumes about how to achieve an elegant, designer-inspired dining space without ever compromising on charm or breaking the bank.

Chic Details: The Dining Room Hutch

Nestled next to the kitchen entrance, a chic little hutch immediately captured our attention. It served not only as a beautiful display for more of Katie’s curated collections but also as a charming transition piece between the dining room and the kitchen. Its elegant presence drew us in, showcasing beautiful china and decorative accents that further underscored the home’s refined aesthetic. However, the allure of the hutch, captivating as it was, couldn’t hold us for too long. The promise of the kitchen beyond, with its own reputation for incredible DIY transformation, beckoned us forward, eager to uncover the next chapter of this remarkable home tour.

A DIY Masterpiece: The Jaw-Dropping Kitchen Renovation

Indeed, this kitchen possesses some serious drawing power, and for good reason! What Jeremy and Katie have accomplished in this space is nothing short of extraordinary. They embarked on an ambitious DIY kitchen renovation that transformed a formerly closed-off, conventional area into an open, expansive, and utterly breathtaking masterpiece. This wasn’t just a simple update; it was a complete structural overhaul. With their own four hands, they meticulously ripped down walls, learned the intricacies of running their own electrical wiring, expertly installed stock cabinetry, and even laid their own floors. The sheer scope of their effort is mind-boggling, and the results are truly a testament to their dedication, skill, and vision. Every element, from the sleek range hood (which, in a fun twist, we realized was the exact same model we have!) to the perfectly executed backsplash, was chosen and installed with painstaking care. As we toured this incredible space, we found ourselves gaping in admiration at their handiwork at every turn. It’s a powerful example of how passion and perseverance can transform a house into a dream home, creating a central hub that is both beautiful and highly functional, perfectly suited for modern living and entertaining. This kitchen isn’t just a place to cook; it’s a living monument to what can be achieved with a bold vision and a willingness to get your hands dirty.

Thoughtful Touches: Kitchen Details That Shine

Katie’s dedication to detail truly elevates the kitchen beyond a mere renovation. For her, no detail is too small to be overlooked or to receive a special touch. Observe the elegant white china, artfully arranged in her doorless hutch, transforming functional items into a captivating display. And then there’s the delightful white dishtowel, not just any dishtowel, but one that Katie hand-sewed herself, adding playful pom-poms for an extra dash of personality. These seemingly minor additions collectively create a cohesive and charming aesthetic that feels both bespoke and utterly welcoming. It’s a prime example of how thoughtful, budget-friendly accessories and personalized DIY accents can imbue a space with unparalleled style and character, proving that you don’t need to spend a fortune to achieve a look that feels both curated and uniquely yours. Her approach reminds us that true style lies in the details and the personal stories they tell.

Seamless Flow: The Inviting Den & Fireplace

One of the most impactful decisions in Katie and Jeremy’s renovation was the strategic removal of a wall, which resulted in the kitchen opening up beautifully into an inviting little den. This transformation created a cohesive and open-plan living space that feels incredibly airy and connected. The den itself is a haven of comfort, centered around a charming fireplace that they expertly tiled themselves – another impressive notch in their DIY belt. The mantelpiece, adorned with carefully selected decor, becomes a focal point, drawing the eye and adding warmth to the room. Further enhancing the den’s character is a coffee table, a true testament to Katie’s knack for spotting potential. Originally a Craigslist find, it was completely reinvented and given a new lease on life with the transformative power of white paint. This brilliant upcycling project showcases how a little creativity and a fresh coat of paint can turn an ordinary, overlooked piece into a stunning centerpiece. The den seamlessly combines cozy relaxation with smart design, offering a perfect spot for unwinding while staying connected to the heart of the home, the kitchen.

Personal Touches & Ceramic Animal Charm

Katie’s soft spot for clean white accessories is evident throughout the den, contributing to its fresh and serene aesthetic. From the elegant candlesticks, another fantastic Goodwill score, to the charming DIY art adorning the walls, every element is chosen to create a sense of calm and welcome. These thoughtful details made us feel right at home, reinforcing the idea that a truly personal space is built on items that resonate with its inhabitants. Of course, my own penchant for white ceramic animals meant I was absolutely captivated by her adorable ceramic bird. My consistency in loving these quirky little treasures knows no bounds, and the fact that this particular little guy was a “cheep” – err, cheap – score from Goodwill filled me with a delightful sense of ceramic animal envy. It’s these unique, affordable finds that truly give a home character and personality, showcasing how a collection of small, meaningful objects can make a big impact.

Connecting Spaces: Den to Living Room

Further enhancing the open and airy feel of the first floor, Katie and Jeremy strategically widened the passageway between the den and the living room. This architectural adjustment significantly improved the flow of the entire space, creating a sense of seamless connection and expansive openness that is incredibly inviting. As our eyes drifted to the coffee table in the living room, a familiar sight instantly caught my attention: a striking white ceramic horse head. Was it the same one that graces our TV stand in our own den? Indeed, it was! This shared love for an “equine bust from Tarjay” (Target, for the uninitiated) was a delightful discovery, highlighting not only a shared aesthetic but also the joy of finding stylish, affordable pieces that can elevate any decor. It’s a testament to how popular, accessible decor items can create a sense of kinship among design enthusiasts, proving that great style can be found at any price point.

Vibrant Accents: Living Room Decor

The living room bursts with fresh pops of green, strategically introduced throughout the space to add vibrancy and a touch of nature’s calming influence. These thoughtful color accents truly make the room sing. We were particularly impressed by one of the lovely green pillows adorning Katie’s couch – a brilliant DIY hack. She ingeniously transformed a Pottery Barn placemat by ripping it apart and stuffing it with batting, creating a custom, high-end looking pillow for a fraction of the cost. This clever trick perfectly encapsulates Katie’s resourcefulness. Her proximity to a Pottery Barn outlet is indeed a stroke of luck, allowing her to snag incredible deals on everything from the comfortable couch to those versatile white ottomans. Our entire tour was punctuated by envious gasps as she revealed the unbelievably low prices she paid for such quality items. It’s inspiring to see how a savvy shopper can furnish a home with beautiful, stylish pieces without ever having to pay full price, proving that dream decor is within reach with a bit of patience and smart shopping.

DIY Renovation Genius: The Under-$500 Bathroom Makeover

If it wasn’t already glaringly obvious that Katie and Jeremy possess the skills to easily flip houses for a living, their downstairs bathroom renovation unequivocally seals the deal. Katie recently transformed this space for an astonishing under $500 – an achievement that truly left us speechless. This wasn’t merely a cosmetic update; Katie fearlessly tackled serious DIY tasks. She expertly wielded a wet saw, a tool many shy away from, and installed her own molding, with only a “wee bit” of assistance from her husband. Her hands-on approach and impressive technical skills demonstrate that with determination and a willingness to learn, significant home improvements can be made on a shoestring budget. The finished bathroom, with its fresh look and updated fixtures, is a powerful testament to their ability to create stunning, high-value transformations without incurring massive costs. It’s a masterclass in budget-friendly bathroom design, proving that creativity and elbow grease are the most valuable tools in any renovation project.

Beyond the Closet: Katie’s Dream Dressing Room

A few days prior, we had briefly crashed Katie’s closet, and while that gave us a glimpse, the full scope of her dressing room is even more impressive. While most people contend with a single hanging bar and half a dresser for storage, Katie has ingeniously dedicated an entire third bedroom to her wardrobe needs. One side of the room boasts a magnificent wall of custom wardrobes, providing ample, organized storage for clothing, jewelry, and shoes – a dream come true for anyone seeking optimal organization. But this room is more than just a closet; the other side serves as the most charming and versatile bonus space. It’s thoughtfully arranged to function as a peaceful retreat for settling down with a good book, or as a cozy extra guest room, complete with a comfortable daybed. This multi-functional design showcases Katie’s exceptional talent for maximizing space and creating zones that are both practical and aesthetically pleasing, offering a glimpse into how smart design can enhance daily living.

Rustic Charm: The Upstairs Guest Bathroom Transformation

In yet another brilliant stroke of bathroom design, Katie and Jeremy completely reimagined their upstairs guest bathroom, infusing it with character and warmth. They started by painting the walls a moody khaki, a sophisticated neutral that instantly transformed the room’s ambiance, giving it a cozy yet elegant feel. The true standout, however, is the amazing custom wood frame they crafted and mounted around the room’s original mirror. This isn’t just any frame; it’s a meticulously designed piece that adds significant visual interest and a custom, high-end look that elicits an immediate “ooh la la.” What makes it truly unique is their hands-on approach to distressing: they deliberately aged each piece of wood using nails, chains, and a hammer before staining and installing them. This intricate process resulted in a mirror frame with rich texture and a beautifully weathered appearance, perfectly complementing the khaki walls. It’s a fantastic example of how adding custom, handcrafted elements can elevate a standard bathroom into a truly personalized and stylish sanctuary, demonstrating that thoughtful details can have a profound impact on a space’s overall aesthetic.

A Peaceful Retreat: Master Bedroom & Ensuite

Finally, our tour culminates in the serene and peaceful master bedroom and its adjoining ensuite bath – a space that actually bears a striking resemblance to our own bedroom design, which was a delightful discovery! This connection isn’t a coincidence; in fact, we had the pleasure of featuring Katie’s bedroom photos as a Reader Redesign last year. Katie had sent us pictures, revealing that she had thoughtfully modeled her beautiful curtained wall after our very own bedroom. This personal touch creates a soft, luxurious backdrop, adding warmth and depth to the room while providing a unique architectural element. The bedroom itself is a sanctuary of calm, designed for ultimate relaxation, and the ensuite bath offers a private, spa-like escape. It’s incredibly heartwarming to see how our shared design inspirations can ripple through the blogging community, fostering a sense of connection and creativity. This bedroom is a testament to the power of inspiration, demonstrating how adapting ideas can lead to a truly personal and comforting space.

Your Guide to Entertaining: The Table Setting Video Extravaganza!

And now, for the grand finale of our home tour – we are thrilled to present our little table setting video extravaganza! When we were planning our content, we deliberated over many ideas, but the concept of showcasing table settings in real-time, right in front of the camera, truly resonated with both of us. We loved the idea of demonstrating the stages of creating a beautiful tablescape, making it accessible and inspiring for everyone. We won’t lie, it took considerable effort! We meticulously sifted through Katie’s extensive collection of servingware and accessories, painstakingly creating five distinct table settings. Filming them to perfection required about 20 takes in total, but we are immensely proud of our “film-fest” and believe it was well worth the effort. We genuinely hope you’ll enjoy our step-by-step table sprucing tutorial, packed with ideas to elevate your next gathering.

It’s worth noting that some of the settings you’ll see are quite robust and elaborate. For Katie’s table, we opted not to add the leaf, so please feel free to adapt our ideas to a larger surface if you have one, or remove a few elements to create more space for platters of delicious food. Our goal is to inspire, not to dictate, so make these ideas your own! Oh, and there are a few other humorous observations you might notice throughout the video. Here’s what to look out for:

  • You’ll see both of us are initially incredibly weird and nervous – the camera can be intimidating!
  • We seem to get progressively loopier as the video goes on, as if we’re downing champagne off camera (we promise, we weren’t!).
  • I hilariously confuse apple trees with cherry trees at one point – clearly, my botanical knowledge is… blossoming.
  • Katie manages to squeeze in some of her signature, delightful potty humor, adding a touch of authentic charm.
  • Expect lots of talking with our hands – a true giveaway that our moms are Italian!
  • I manage to mispronounce “faux-bois” (fake wood) like “foie gras” (duck liver) not once, but twice!
  • Listen closely for Katie saying “pull” in that endearing Southern way when she’s making those perfect ribbon curls.

Thank you so much for dedicating eleven minutes of your valuable life to viewing our little flick! If the high-quality version proves to be a bit jumpy on your computer, we’ve also included a slightly lower quality option that might play more smoothly. We’d absolutely love to hear which table setting was your favorite. And don’t hold back – tell us if I’m louder, nerdier, shorter, scowlier, or just plain more awkward than you may have imagined! A huge, heartfelt thank you goes out to Katie (and her main man Jeremy) for their incredible hospitality, for opening their beautiful casa to us for photos, and for patiently helping us set and reset the table countless times. Be sure to check out Katie’s take on everything over on her fantastic blog, Bower Power – you know she’ll give you the unfiltered truth, even if we showed up with bad breath! We hope this tour has inspired you to tackle your own DIY projects and create a home that truly reflects your personality and style.

Still itching for even more table setting ideas and inspiration? We’ve got you covered! Here are seven other festive options for various occasions, along with a dedicated holiday table setting post to spark your creativity for seasonal entertaining. Happy decorating!
