A Sparkling Celebration: Our Enchanting Christmas Home Tour
The magic of Christmas is undeniably upon us, a feeling that resonates deeply within our home, especially through the infectious joy of a two-year-old’s enthusiastic shouts of “It’s Christmastime!” every time we spot a festively lit house from the car. This delightful exclamation, often repeated countless times in a minute, never fails to bring smiles and cheers. For me, the journey into holiday decorating always begins with a slight resistance, a gentle push to delay, before the undeniable Christmas spirit takes hold. And once it does, there’s no stopping the festive transformation! Our home quickly transitions from quietly awaiting the season to being exuberantly, gloriously decorated within a few short days. It’s truly “CHRISTMASTIME!”
Join me on a delightful holiday house tour as I share a glimpse into our festive abode. Let’s begin in the heart of our home, the living room, where our magnificent Christmas tree stands proudly. Its warm glow is a constant source of joy, now perfectly visible from the kitchen, a view made possible by our recent open-concept renovation. The seamless flow between these spaces allows the festive cheer to permeate every corner.

The Heart of the Home: Kitchen and Living Room Festivities
The unobstructed view from our newly renovated kitchen into the living room is truly a sight to behold, especially with the Christmas tree aglow. It’s remarkable to recall that a substantial wall and a bulky wet bar once obscured this beautiful open space. Now, the natural light floods through, and the festive decor creates an inviting atmosphere perfect for holiday gatherings.

There are moments when I find myself simply sitting at the kitchen island, gazing at the tree with a goofy, yet content, smile. It’s a simple pleasure, but one that truly encapsulates the peaceful joy of the season. This festive view truly makes our newly opened kitchen an even more beloved space.

A Tree Full of Memories: Our Eclectic Ornament Collection
Gone are the days of perfectly themed Christmas trees. Our tree is now a beautiful, heartwarming tapestry of memories, showcasing a delightful mix of ornaments. From the charming popsicle stick reindeer and paper bells brought home from school by the kids, to a quirky ceramic hamburger, treasured hand-me-down ornaments from our own childhoods, and a collection of random finds we’ve gathered over the years – like miniature chihuahuas, our initials, and tiny red bikes – each one tells a story. We even have a few homemade creations from our early days in our first home, like a snow-capped marvel and a delicate feather-filled bauble, crafted by me. This eclectic collection is a true reflection of our family’s journey, brimming with sentimental value.

Among these cherished ornaments are our homemade silhouette creations: one for C on the left and one for T on the right. I also meticulously traced their tiny handprints when they were small enough to fit onto round ornaments, a treasured keepsake. You can find more details on how we crafted both these personalized ornaments here, inviting you to create your own family heirlooms.

Whimsical Touches: Fireplace and Built-ins
Continuing our tour, you’ll find some unique and playful decor near our fireplace. In a nod to my quirky side, I’ve filled a random thrifted birdcage with old fake presents. These were once arranged on the mantel in the days before two mobile children consumed all my crafting time (now I’m practically a gift bag hoarder, avoiding wrapping real presents!). There’s no profound reason for putting fake presents in “jail,” other than it brings a chuckle to our family. Our stocking situation remains blissfully simple, with one stocking for each child. Our beloved dog, Burger, gets his own generous gift bag of treats, and we typically forgo stocking stuffers for ourselves. The adorable strands of elephants are actually two sections cut from this larger string, with the remaining pieces transformed into other charming ornaments.

Many have asked about the armchair’s fate when the Christmas tree claims its usual corner in the living room. As you can see, we simply shift it to sit snugly in front of the built-ins. It creates a cozy reading nook, and I’m often tempted to acquire a second chair for this spot to enjoy year-round. However, that would mean relocating one of the chairs to a much further corner, perhaps the office, every time the tree comes out, so for now, I embrace my lazy side and stick with one!

Our built-in shelves are currently home to a charming collection of Christmas miniatures. You might recall the glass boxes I filled with faux snow and tiny ceramic dogs and trees – a project that was both simple and incredibly fun! Nestled amongst these are delicate angel, Santa, and Mrs. Claus figurines, treasured pieces from my own childhood. My sweet mom gifted them to me this year, along with three more angels and two little mice carrying presents. Given their small size and fragility, placing them out of reach on the built-ins allows us to admire them without constant worry of breakage. So far, so good – knock on wood!

Kitchen Cheer: Shelves, Stove, and Simple Delights
Even our kitchen shelves have been infused with holiday cheer this year. A few small white ceramic houses, a bowl filled with old ornaments, and another collection under a dome-covered cake stand add subtle festive touches. The framed print of a Christmas tree? That’s simply a page I carefully tore from a Real Simple Christmas issue – it also featured a darling illustration of a fireplace with hung stockings. Such a simple trick to add seasonal art! I often share such quick decor tips on my Insta Stories, so feel free to follow along for more ideas.

Turning towards the stove, you’ll discover two wooden trees that were delightful leftovers from a project we undertook with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond a few years ago. The vibrant red bottle brush tree is a recent Target find – because, apparently, one can never have enough feather or bottle brush trees! The same goes for the white one nestled on the counter in the background. And yes, you guessed it, more ornaments thoughtfully arranged in a bowl. I suppose at this point, you could call that my signature move! To complete the look, I also brought out our beautiful green cloth napkins, adding a touch of sophisticated color.

Welcoming Wonders: Foyer and Staircase
Our foyer always receives a touch of holiday charm, but this year, I opted for delightful simplicity. My favorite old white feather tree takes center stage, accompanied by a pair of vibrant red rubber boots filled with delicate faux evergreen sprigs. Last year, these boots graced our porch, but I rarely got to appreciate their charm as we typically enter through the garage. This year, problem solved! They greet us daily. And speaking of greetings, I still can’t help but exclaim “BOOTS WITH THE FIR!” every time I see them. It makes me wonder if our son inherited his spontaneous outbursts of glee from me!

And those beautiful paper flowers? I discovered them at a local craft fair here in Richmond. Carrie, the talented artisan who creates them, also sells them online. I adore that they require no water and add such a sweet, delicate touch to our holiday decor. The true Christmas miracle is that they’ve remained unscathed by tiny hands so far – only one harmless attempt to gently sniff them!

For a few years now, we’ve adorned our stair railing with faux greenery, a tradition I almost skip each year due to the cable ties and ribbons involved in securing it. But once it’s up, the festive impact is undeniable, transforming the staircase into a welcoming cascade of holiday spirit. It’s truly a rewarding sight when descending the stairs, enhancing the overall festive ambiance of our home.

Personalized Spaces: Kids’ Room and Bonus Room Trees
Our daughter has her very own special Christmas tree in her room, a delightful addition we brought home last year. She enjoys helping us decorate the main tree, but expressed a desire for a little tree glowing in her own space. We had so much fun picking out charming felt ornaments for it together! It came with a small metal stand, but each year, I prefer to tuck it into this hand-painted basket, which I think looks absolutely adorable nestled in the corner of her room, adding a personal touch to her festive decor.

This year, we also introduced a mini tree to our bonus room, and we are absolutely enamored with it! As you ascend the stairs, its gentle glow is visible down the hall, creating a welcoming beacon. It looks particularly sweet positioned in front of the window, nestled between our homemade shelves. A fantastic bonus is that our driveway and garage are directly beneath this window, allowing us to enjoy its festive sparkle from outside – a lovely alternative, as we rarely catch a glimpse of our living room tree from the backyard unless we’re chasing after Burger!

Isn’t this tree simply charming? We discovered this realistic-looking gem here, and we adore it. We filled it with a mix of ornaments we already owned, allowing the kids to pick out a few new favorites when we bought it, like this delightful one and this other charming find. The felted hot chocolate mug ornament might just be my absolute favorite – seeing the kids skip up to the tree and pretend to take a sip from it is utterly adorable.

Outdoor Radiance: Welcoming Holiday Curb Appeal
Our outdoor decorations were just completed this past weekend, and we’ve kept things wonderfully simple yet impactful. My favorite elements are the vibrant red lanterns, which we fill with lights to cast an extra festive glow on our steps, creating a warm and inviting entrance. The subtle shimmer against the winter evening is truly enchanting.

I also crafted another beautiful homemade wreath at a delightful “Wine & Wreath” event at Rassawek, a vineyard in Virginia – a tradition I enjoyed last year as well! This magnificent creation, brimming with lush magnolia leaves, now graces our front door, adding a touch of natural elegance and shine that only magnolia can provide.

This year, we decided to simplify our window decor. We opted not to hang the wreaths we previously placed on every window. Our existing beautiful landscape lighting already provides a wonderful glowing ambiance, complemented by the classic candles in our windows. Since the wreaths weren’t lit, they weren’t truly visible at night anyway, making this a practical and equally festive change.

Back Porch Brilliance: Moravian Stars
To compensate for skipping the window wreaths, we hung our beloved Moravian stars on the back porch, and they are absolutely exquisite! These stars are among my favorite Christmas decorations to bring out each year, possessing a unique charm that feels both special and timelessly classic. They blend seamlessly with any decor style, even alongside our modern egg chair. Their setup is incredibly simple: just plug them in and secure them with three small white cup hooks. The entire process takes a mere four minutes, tops, delivering maximum impact with minimal effort.

Overall, our home is now 100% decorated, and we are an exhilarating 110% excited! This level of excitement can only be compared to Will Ferrell’s Buddy the Elf – a pure, unadulterated joy that fills every corner of our festive home. Indeed, IT’S CHRISTMASTIME, and we couldn’t be happier to share our sparkling celebration with you!
