Many readers may know that Sherry and I launched Young House Love to document our kitchen renovation for family and friends. The idea came to us one evening last September while walking Burger, and we even chose the name before finishing our walk around the block.
That night I signed up for a free WordPress account, picked an existing template I liked, and published a brief introductory post (you can read the original introduction on our site). That early post marked the beginning of our blog, and the site looked something like this:

That steely blue template now seems quaint to us, but it was our pride and joy for the first five months of blogging. Once the kitchen dust settled, we decided it was time to give Young House Love a refresh that better matched our evolving aesthetic.
I picked up the basics of web coding, and together Sherry and I designed a new homepage that felt more like home. We updated the site with a neutral palette and cleaner lines to reflect the style used throughout our house. The redesigned site launched on February 16, and we’ve enjoyed the cleaner look ever since—though we’re always open to hearing suggestions.
Given how our tastes change over time, don’t be surprised if you see a future YHL v3.0. For now, we’re content with our happy little home(page), and we hope you enjoy visiting it as much as we enjoy maintaining it.
