We are absolutely overwhelmed and incredibly grateful for the outpouring of enthusiasm and kind messages received following yesterday’s significant announcement. Sharing this exciting new chapter of our lives with all of you fills us with an almost unbelievable giddiness. There might have been more than a few misty-eyed moments as we read through your wonderfully supportive comments, confirming once again what an amazing and engaged community we have.
Embrace the Season of Creation: The Spring Pinterest Challenge is Here!
As the air fills with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the gentle warmth of the sun, can you feel that familiar buzz? It’s not just spring; it’s also time for another much-anticipated Pinterest Challenge! This beloved tradition, born not from corporate sponsorship but from a genuine desire to inspire action, was originally dreamed up by the brilliant Katie Bower. Her simple yet profound idea was to encourage us all to move beyond endlessly pinning beautiful ideas and actually start bringing them to life through tangible DIY projects.
The genesis of this fun challenge dates back nearly two years. Katie reached out with a proposition: why don’t we, as a community, commit to making one inspired project each season, drawing directly from the wealth of ideas we’ve meticulously curated on Pinterest? And thus, the “Pinterest Challenge” was born – a simple name for a powerful concept that transforms digital inspiration into real-world creations. So, dust off your creative spirit, grab your painting flip-flops (surely, I’m not the only one with designated DIY footwear!), and let’s dive headfirst into this season of hands-on creativity and home transformation!

The Guiding Principles: Pin It, Do It, Share It!
The beauty of the Pinterest Challenge lies in its simplicity and flexibility. The core rule is delightfully straightforward: choose any inspiring project you’ve pinned and put your own unique, personal spin on it. This isn’t about perfect replication; it’s about interpretation, adaptation, and making it truly yours. Whether you add a personal touch, adapt it to your specific space, or modify materials to fit your budget, the goal is to infuse your creativity into the original idea. This approach fosters personal expression while still benefiting from the initial spark of inspiration.
Crucially, we always encourage participants to link back to the original creator of the project that sparked their inspiration. This respectful nod acknowledges the source, whether it’s a major company like Anthropologie showcasing a stunning piece or a fellow blogger sharing an ingenious DIY tutorial that got your creative gears turning. We particularly appreciate pins from sites that feature “Pin It” buttons, as this often indicates their enthusiasm for being a source of inspiration on Pinterest and a willingness to share their creative work with a wider audience.
The scope of eligible projects is incredibly broad, limited only by your imagination. There are no size constraints – your project can be grand or modest. Likewise, there are no thematic restrictions; it could be a stunning new piece of home decor, a practical sewing creation, an experimental culinary delight, or something entirely outside these categories. The essence is to transform a digital idea into a tangible reality, fostering a sense of accomplishment and injecting fresh energy into your living space or daily routine. This challenge is designed to be a catalyst for action, turning passive admiration into active creation and helping you conquer those projects that have lingered on your boards for too long.
A Journey Through Our Past Pinterest Challenge Triumphs
Over the past two years, John and I have embraced the Pinterest Challenge with open arms, tackling a diverse array of projects that pushed our creative boundaries and helped us develop new skills. Each season brought a fresh opportunity to turn a pinned vision into a completed reality, and looking back, it’s incredible to see the variety of creations that have come to life in our home.
- Our Inaugural Project: The Clothespin Light. Our very first foray into the challenge saw us crafting a unique clothespin light fixture. This project was a fantastic introduction to the spirit of the challenge, taking an everyday item and transforming it into a statement piece of lighting, proving that creativity can often be found in the most unexpected places and with humble materials.
- Festive Flair: Homemade Ornaments. For the next challenge, I delved into the world of holiday crafting, creating a beautiful set of homemade ornaments. This was a delightful way to personalize our seasonal decor, adding warmth and a touch of handmade charm to our home during the festive period. It highlighted how even small, decorative projects can make a big impact on seasonal aesthetics and create lasting memories.
- Conquering Sewing Demons: Clara’s Beanbag Pouf. Then came the moment to face my long-standing sewing fears head-on! I bravely took on the task of making a cozy beanbag pouf for Clara. This project was not just about the end product; it was a personal victory in overcoming a perceived limitation and expanding my DIY skillset, proving that the challenge is also about personal growth and building confidence in new crafts.
- Unleashing Inner Artist: Homemade Art. Next, I decided to try my hand at creating some original homemade art. This was a wonderful opportunity to experiment with colors and textures, adding a unique, personalized aesthetic to our walls without breaking the bank. It showed the potential for decorative elements to be incredibly rewarding to create yourself, making your home truly unique.
- Functional & Stylish: The Leaning Chalkboard. Following that, John and I collaborated on building a versatile leaning chalkboard. This project was a perfect blend of form and function, offering a stylish way to organize notes and messages while adding a rustic touch to our decor. It demonstrated how practical items can also be beautifully crafted, serving multiple purposes in a home.
- Architectural Charm: Hallway Board & Batten. Our most recent challenge saw us undertaking a more architectural project, adding some classic board & batten detailing to our hallway. This project significantly enhanced the character and visual interest of a frequently used space, showcasing how the challenge can inspire more permanent home improvements and elevate the overall design of a room.
Our Spring 2026 Vision: Charming Window Boxes

This time around, with spring firmly in full swing (and my allergies responding with an impressive flourish, which actually makes outdoor projects seem like a good idea for some reason!), we decided to tackle something that has been patiently lingering on our extensive to-do list for well over a year: charming window boxes! This project feels especially timely and significant for a few key reasons, blending personal satisfaction with practical home improvement goals.
We envision a series of carefully crafted window boxes gracing the front facade of our home. We firmly believe these additions will provide the ultimate finishing touch, introducing much-needed dimension, visual interest, and a softening touch of lush greenery to our rather long and somewhat boxy ranch-style house. The vibrant colors of blooming flowers and cascading foliage will create an inviting aesthetic, enhancing our home’s curb appeal significantly. Beyond the aesthetic upgrade for our own enjoyment, this project holds particular strategic importance as our house has recently entered the market – literally for just one day, haha! In the competitive world of real estate, curb appeal is paramount. While we absolutely love whipping up Pinterest-inspired art or tackling a furniture makeover, for this particular season, adding appealing exterior features like window boxes feels like a more impactful way to attract potential buyers and create a welcoming first impression. These projects will hopefully speak volumes about the care and attention invested in our home, much more so than an indoor project would at this crucial time. We’re certainly saving those exciting interior makeovers for our future new abode!
Pinning for Purpose: From Inspiration to Execution

Our inspiration for these window boxes, as always, came directly from the vast sea of creativity on Pinterest. I’ve actually curated two distinct window-box related pins that are guiding our current endeavor. The first is this stunning image, which serves purely as “eye candy.” At upwards of $90 per box, they are certainly beyond our budget for multiple units, but they provide an invaluable visual benchmark for the aesthetic we’re aiming for – the desired style, proportion, and overall elegance. It’s fantastic for setting the mood and vision, giving us a clear goal for the final look.
The second pin is far more practical: a comprehensive tutorial for making window boxes. This is our fallback plan; if we struggle to find ready-made boxes that align with both our design preferences and our budget, we are fully prepared to roll up our sleeves and build them from scratch using this detailed guide. This dual approach of visual inspiration and practical instruction is key to successful Pinterest-inspired DIY. The search for materials and suitable ready-made options has already begun, and we’re officially “on like Donkey Kong” with this project! The thrill of turning these digital inspirations into tangible elements of our home is always invigorating, especially when tackling an outdoor home improvement project that truly enhances curb appeal.
Joining Forces: Welcoming Our Guest Hosts!
Of course, a Pinterest Challenge wouldn’t be complete without a fantastic community of fellow DIY enthusiasts! You’re likely wondering who else is embarking on this creative journey alongside myself and K-Bo (Katie Bower). We love the idea of bringing new voices and fresh perspectives to the challenge each season, so we’ve made it a tradition to invite different folks to “guest host” with us. These guest hosts are always individuals who have previously participated and delivered something truly memorable in a past challenge, embodying the spirit of creativity and sharing. This time, we are absolutely thrilled and honored to have two wonderfully talented bloggers joining our ranks:
-
Emily from Sparkle Meets Pop: Emily dazzled us in the last challenge by embracing her inner glitter enthusiast, delivering a project with truly sweet and sparkling results. Her ability to infuse joy and fun into her DIYs is infectious, and we can’t wait to see what creative magic she conjures up this spring, adding her unique sparkle to the challenge!
-
Renee from Red Bird Blue: Renee impressed everyone with her ingenuity in a past challenge, where her project was an incredibly clever and functional iPod dock. Her knack for combining practicality with aesthetic appeal makes her an inspiring addition to our hosting team this season, demonstrating how DIY can blend utility with beautiful design.
