We discovered completely rotten siding that you could literally stick your arm through—a horrifying revelation that underscored the extent of the decay. Add to that a caved-in roof and numerous other structural compromises, and it became clear that patching would be a temporary, ineffective fix. The cost and effort of piecemeal repairs would have far outweighed the long-term benefits of a complete rebuild.

The silver lining in this extensive reconstruction is the opportunity it afforded us to optimize the layout for modern living. This rebuilt area now thoughtfully houses all three bathrooms, a highly functional mudroom, the new, spacious pantry we discussed earlier, and a cozy upstairs bunk room. This strategic re-planning has resulted in a more efficient, comfortable, and beautiful home that truly meets the needs of our family and guests. It’s a testament to the idea that sometimes, starting anew provides the best foundation for future joy and functionality.
