It’s been an exhilarating journey, and we’re thrilled to finally roll out the red carpet for our latest video house tour! Over six months have whizzed by since our last comprehensive walk-through, and believe us, a lot can happen in that time. We’ve been inundated with requests for an update, and after a good deal of effort (which mostly involved strategically tucking away all evidence of daily life into our closets), we’ve produced an all-new, one-take video showcasing the evolution of our cherished home.
Initially, we thought the changes might be subtle, perhaps not enough to warrant an entirely new tour. However, as we prepared to film, we quickly realized just how much transformation has taken place since our previous tour. From major renovations to nuanced decor adjustments, every corner of our home tells a story of ongoing love and attention. We’re excited to share these updates, which include a freshly redone hall bathroom, a storage room brilliantly reimagined into a vibrant playroom, striking new lighting fixtures that have redefined the ambiance in our living and dining rooms, a multitude of inviting updates in the sunroom, a refreshed fireplace facade that now serves as a captivating focal point, and a serene new color palette gracing our kitchen. Not to mention, the addition of elegant board and batten detailing in the hallway has added character and charm. So, without further ado, let’s embark on this tour together. I’ll provide the lively commentary, while John, with his steady hand, will expertly maneuver the camera – trust me, you don’t want me attempting both!

Behind the Scenes: A Few Insights into Our Home Tour Videos
Crafting these video tours is always an adventure, and there are a few tidbits we thought you might find interesting or amusing about our process:
- Our Filming Gear: This entire tour was captured on our trusty Nikon D3200. While it primarily serves as our digital camera for still photography, its video capabilities are surprisingly robust, making it perfect for these occasional home video projects.
- Breaking a Silly Tradition: I’m incredibly pleased to report that for this tour, I am *not* sick! It’s become an almost comical tradition that for the past two video tours, I’ve been battling a cold or flu. So, breaking that streak feels like a small victory. Huzzah!
- The Unexplained Hilarity of a Falling Towel: There’s a moment in the video where a towel inexplicably slides to the ground. In real-time, it struck me as utterly hilarious, causing a fit of giggles. Watching it back, however, it’s not even remotely entertaining. Perhaps I just get a bit hyper or nervous when giving these tours? Yes, that’s almost certainly it!
- The Case of the Brassy Doorknobs: Are the boldly brassy doorknobs in the laundry room making you itch? Believe me, I understand! I’ve painstakingly “ORBed” (oil-rubbed bronze-ified) nearly every other doorknob throughout the house, but I confess, those laundry room culprits just haven’t made it to the top of the priority list yet. One day, perhaps!
Witnessing the Evolution: A Look Back at a Previous Home Tour
One of the most rewarding aspects of creating these regular video updates is the ability to look back and see how much our home has evolved. They truly become little bi-annual time capsules, preserving not just the physical changes but also the memories and milestones associated with each stage of our renovation journey. I often drag my feet when it comes to the actual filming and editing, but I’m always so grateful afterward that we’ve taken the time to document these transformations. To highlight this, I thought it would be fun to revisit our last video tour from September, allowing you to trace the journey and appreciate the progress alongside us.

Our Unique Approach to Video House Tours: A Two-Person Team
Have you ever considered videotaping your house, purely to capture its changes over time? We highly recommend it! It’s incredibly insightful and heartwarming to look back on. And how about your significant other? Would your hubby ever willingly walk around with you, patiently holding the camera while you enthusiastically narrate right beside him? That, dear readers, is precisely our method, and it’s a dynamic that has proven surprisingly effective for us. John and I stroll through our home together; he handles the camera, capturing every detail, while I handle the endless chatter, pointing out every update and explaining our design choices.
I genuinely believe John deserves an astronomical number of “man-points” – perhaps 65,790 to be precise – for enduring this slightly unconventional technique. But somehow, it consistently works. The truth is, if he were the narrator, the tour would likely sound something like this: “This is the dining room (followed by a lengthy, contemplative pause)… and this is the office (another equally long pause)… okay, we’re done.” While concise, it wouldn’t quite capture the spirit or the details we aim to share. Conversely, if I were attempting to chat while simultaneously holding and operating the camera, I’m fairly certain that seven out of ten viewers would experience motion sickness or lose their lunch watching the shaky footage. Hence, our beloved “four-legged video house tour” tradition was born – a collaborative effort that ensures both comprehensive coverage and stable videography. Yeehaw!
