Just as we wrapped up our big kitchen reveal, Amanda and her resourceful husband were finishing theirs. They didn’t just renovate — they gutted the entire space and rebuilt it themselves. Yes, they even built their own cabinets. We’ve shared several kitchen Reader Redesigns recently, and this transformation was too good not to feature. Here’s Amanda’s note.
I wanted to send you a link to our recently finished kitchen. The room started out as a 90’s oak and almond appliance box:
We tore everything out to start from scratch.
My husband and I did all of the work—no contractors. He removed a wall, built custom cabinets, laid new hardwood floors, installed wood countertops, tiled the backsplash, and handled many other tasks.
The space feels much more open now. Features like the glass-front cabinets and the marble backsplash provide a finished, polished look.
I thought you’d appreciate our hard work, especially since you’re finishing your own kitchen remodel too! — Amanda
The results are impressive. If you want more details, visit Amanda’s blog for a full project breakdown and budget summary. It’s inspiring to see what a dedicated DIY couple can accomplish.
So, what’s your favorite part of the remodel? I’m especially fond of the warm wood countertops; Sherry’s obsessed with that marble backsplash. Both elements add texture and contrast that elevate the whole room.
Psst — We announced this week’s giveaway winner. Click to see if it’s you.
