Clara’s Enchanted Easter: A Weekend of Discovery, Family, and Beachside Bliss
This past Easter wasn’t just another holiday; for our little Clara, it was a grand revelation. We’re pretty sure she’s found her new favorite celebration, or perhaps it’s simply the first major holiday she’s been old enough to truly embrace and enjoy. Either way, the weekend was an undeniable triumph, overflowing with joy, laughter, and unforgettable firsts for our cherished daughter.

The Great Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza: A Five-Day Celebration
Clara’s affection for Easter might be slightly skewed, given that in her young mind, the festivities spanned an incredible five days! We officially kicked off the Easter fun last Wednesday with an exciting egg hunt at a local park. Joining us were her older cousins, Jake (who coincidentally turned 13 on the day of this article’s drafting – Happy Birthday, Jake!) and Olivia, a bright 10-year-old. This early celebration was perfect, as they would be spending the official Easter weekend with their dad’s side of the family.

First Encounters: Love at First Sight with Easter Eggs
During this initial hunt, Clara “found” two eggs – a careful assist from Sherry and me, as my dad had thoughtfully placed them out in the open for her and her 18-month-old cousin, Emanuel, to discover. It was truly love at first sight. The moment her eyes landed on those colorful treasures, she was utterly captivated, unable to tear her gaze away from them.

Her newfound devotion was so strong that she absolutely refused to put down her beloved eggs, even as we continued our play on the nearby playground. Apparently, the only thing better than swinging is the sheer delight of swinging while clutching a precious Easter egg in each hand. The simple joy radiating from her was infectious.

From Aisle Adventures to Grand Finale: The Progression of Hunts
This was just the first of Clara’s impressive three Easter egg hunts! On Saturday, we had an unexpected treat when we happened upon another hunt at the grocery store. Imagine, an Easter egg hunt nestled right in the paper towel aisle, specifically for kids under seven! Clara, with her characteristic enthusiasm, left with a single egg, a festive balloon, and a smile so wide it could light up the entire store. This, of course, was merely another delightful warm-up for the main event – the official, highly anticipated hunt that unfolded on glorious Easter morning.
The Ultimate Easter Egg Hunt: Delaware Beach House Edition
The grand stage for Clara’s ultimate egg-finding mission was the picturesque yard surrounding my parents’ cozy beach house in Delaware. The air was filled with anticipation, and Clara’s mission, which she joyfully accepted, was clear: to collect nine elusive eggs.

With her love for Easter eggs still fresh and vibrant from her previous hunts, we allowed her to take a more active role in the grabbing this time around. While Sherry and I still needed to point out most of the hidden treasures, Clara delighted in reaching for them herself. And with her recent fondness for “putting things away,” dropping the coin-filled eggs into her special basket came quite naturally. Although, true to form, one cherished egg often remained clutched tightly in her hand throughout the entire process – a testament to her profound attachment.

Crafting Clara’s Perfect Baby-Friendly Easter Basket
Clara’s “egg-huntin’ bucket” served as her official Easter basket for the day. It was a charming tin from Target, a delightful find for just a few bucks. Not only did its colors perfectly complement her nursery decor, but it also aligned perfectly with her pre-existing love for buckets – a love that had perhaps slipped down a notch, momentarily eclipsed by her newfound romance with Easter eggs.

For those interested in creating similar memorable moments, you can delve deeper into how we assembled this baby-friendly Easter basket. We shared all the details, including the ingenious method Sherry used to dye wooden Easter eggs with food-grade coloring (no kidding!), on BabyCenter. This approach ensures a safe, natural, and visually appealing alternative for the youngest celebrants.

Beyond the eggs, we thoughtfully included a collection of Clara’s other favorite things. From healthy cheerios to a glorious pile of ribbon – which, let’s be honest, often excites Clara more than the actual present it accompanies – every item was chosen to maximize her delight. You can explore all the intricate details and view more charming pictures of her Easter basket setup here.
Oh, and of course, we wouldn’t forget her weekly fabric-background picture! We couldn’t resist giving it a delightful bunny-esque slant for Easter. And yes, that’s a real carrot you see. The little girl absolutely adored it, adding another layer of charm to her holiday memories.

Beach Bliss: Clara’s Grand Discovery of Sand
As much as the Easter baskets, thrilling egg hunts, and cute bunny ears rocked Clara’s little world, perhaps the number one reason Easter cemented its place in her heart this year was something far simpler, yet infinitely captivating: sand.

Since we were fortunate enough to spend the weekend at my parents’ inviting beach house near Bethany Beach, Delaware, and were incredibly blessed with unseasonably warm 80-degree temperatures, Easter naturally involved an impromptu, joyous trip to the ocean – not just on Saturday, but again on Sunday! While the refreshing breeze on the beach meant it wasn’t quite bathing-suit weather, we certainly enjoyed some good old-fashioned beach fun, creating precious family memories by the sea.

A Transformative Relationship with Sand
Saturday’s visit to the beach served as Clara’s reintroduction to sand. Her previous experiences were limited: once as a six-week-old, completely oblivious to her surroundings, and then during our Valentine’s Day trip to Rehoboth Beach, where wind-blown sand in her face left her decidedly unimpressed. This time, however, was a complete turnaround. It was straight-up sand love at first sight, a truly magical transformation.

There was an abundance of sensory exploration: lots of pinching the gritty grains between her tiny fingers, gleefully throwing handfuls into the air, and yes, even a bit of “what does this taste like?” experimentation. Luckily, the verdict was swiftly delivered: “not good,” which brought an end to that particular culinary inquiry soon enough, much to our relief.

Dynamic Beach Adventures and Family Moments
Sunday’s beach trip was even more dynamic, building on the established fact that sand was indeed a friend, not a foe. This allowed for an adventurous sandy crawling session, where Clara explored her surroundings with uninhibited delight.

We also embarked on a charming hunt for seashells and, quite amusingly, for “surfer boys” – though neither proved quite as exciting for Clara as the thrilling quest for Easter eggs just hours earlier. Nonetheless, these were precious moments of discovery and interaction.

There was even a brief, adorable fashion show involving her brand-new sunglasses from the nearby outlets. These stylish shades were tolerated for precisely about ten seconds before Clara decided they interfered too much with her important beach activities!

And of course, it was an ideal opportunity to spend quality time with her mommy (who, for the occasion, ditched her usual uniform of black shirts!) and her fellow baby cousins: Emanuel and my sister Emily on the left, and John and my sister Katie on the right. Capturing a perfect group photo of three squirmy babies on a windy beach is quite the challenge, but this, without a doubt, was the most flattering and heartwarming picture we managed to achieve of our delightful little crew.

Beyond Clara: A Weekend of Milestones and Home Project Dreams
While Clara’s adventures cemented Easter as her favorite holiday, all these wonderful experiences also translated into a truly fantastic weekend for us grown-ups. In addition to all the family fun, our beloved cousins and best friends, Cat and Travis, welcomed their new baby! The Easter stork, perhaps even more active than the Easter bunny, delivered their adorable son, Edison Dean, on Sunday afternoon. This joyful news meant we were even able to swing by the hospital on our way home Sunday night for a brief, heartwarming meeting with the newest family member. Everyone is doing wonderfully, including Edison’s proud new big sister, Elsa.

From Beach to Blueprint: Patio Planning Progress
And now, for a moment, let’s pivot from the adorable baby content to something a bit more focused on our home. Amidst all the Easter excitement, Sherry and I actually managed to make significant progress on our next big home project, all the way from the beach: detailed patio planning! My dad is also contemplating adding a beautiful stone patio to the back of their beach house, which provided a perfect synergy for our brainstorming efforts. We helped him conceptualize various shapes and layouts. More importantly, we meticulously sketched out a general plan for the paver patio we are about to tackle on the side of our own house, specifically behind the carport. This future outdoor oasis will be conveniently accessible from the sliders in both our living room and the sunroom, creating a seamless flow for indoor-outdoor living.
We’re sure we’ll be sharing many more updates and blabbing a lot about this exciting project as it unfolds. For now, we wanted to leave you with these initial photos of the side yard. This is the very space where we envision adding elegant fencing for enhanced privacy and, of course, a stunning paver patio. This addition will not only provide significantly more outdoor living space for relaxation and entertaining but will also thoughtfully preserve some of the existing green areas, ensuring we retain natural beauty and welcome shade. The integration of hardscaping and softscaping is key to our design, balancing functionality with aesthetics.

Here’s our initial sketch of the plan – at least as it stands today. Sherry had quite a bit of fun bringing our vision to life in Photoshop, creating a detailed representation of our outdoor dreams.

It’s still very early days for this ambitious project, so the final outcome might evolve as we get further into the process. The beauty of design is its flexibility! All I know for sure is that Clara’s next birthday party is less than three weeks away, and my charming, though sometimes a tad too optimistic, wife believes we’ll have the patio completed by then. It promises to be an interesting challenge, to say the least! But enough about our upcoming endeavors (at least until this afternoon’s post) – we’d love to hear about your weekend. Were there exciting egg hunts, thoughtful Easter baskets, playful bunny ears, and even prop carrots involved? Are there other wonderful babies born on Sunday that you know of, adding to the joy of family celebrations?
