Remember the “Things That Are Awesome” print we picked up at a local craft fair last Christmas by an artist named Rachel? We intended to hang it in the guest room so visitors could study all the awesome things while they stayed.
We finally framed it and hung it.
This is actually a view of the guest room we haven’t shown in a long time. The last time we shared it was in a post from two summers ago. Since then we moved a large mirror to the mantel in the kitchen and sold the old Ikea dresser at a yard sale after it started showing its age.
That left the wall empty for a while until we brought in this bookcase (it’s leftover from some book photoshoots — the tutorial for the colored shelf-backs is in the book). All that was left was a quick trip to JoAnn to buy a frame for the print. Of course we used a 40% discount coupon at checkout — they even accept coupons on your phone now.
From the wide shot you can’t fully appreciate the charm of the Things That Are Awesome print (and we love that a fellow Virginian created it).
This close-up gives it more justice. We could stare at it all day.
We also anchored the bookcase to the wall — not just for Clara’s safety but for any guests with kids, which happens every month or two. Fortunately the bookcase, originally from Target, included an anchor system, so we installed it and felt a lot better.
A few days later I walked in and found this, which made my day: apparently the bookcase has Clara’s stamp of approval.
Have any rooms in your house lain dormant for years and then suddenly come alive? Why do you think that happens? Maybe it’s rooms that felt mostly finished early on, so attention shifted elsewhere and they quietly waited until one day you decided to finish them.
