Finally — the awkward gap above our living room window is gone. This weekend we picked up bamboo blinds to bridge the space between the top of the window and the curtain rod. They instantly make the window feel taller and add a touch of natural texture.

And here’s the finished look, achieved with two wood blinds from Walmart (about $25 each) and a little help from John:

We already use the same style of blinds in the den and above the laundry nook as an affordable alternative to cabinet doors. Repeating the blinds in multiple rooms helps create visual consistency and reinforces the sense of height throughout the house. Our favorite treatment for large picture windows is pairing simple wood blinds with white, floor-length Ikea curtains on either side — it softens the look while emphasizing scale and keeps the overall aesthetic light and fresh.
