As a clever contingency, our “Hail Mary” plan for any potential difficulty in matching the new pine flooring perfectly was to save a section of existing flooring from our bedroom. We plan to add an ensuite bathroom to this bedroom in the future, which will likely involve replacing some of its current wood flooring with tile. This foresight offers a practical backup for anyone undertaking similar home improvement projects: strategically saving existing, matching wood from another area of your house that you intend to retile later can provide a perfect, authentic patch for unexpected gaps or repairs.
