Our House, Double Duty: Hosting Magazine Photoshoots

Behind the Lens: Our Home’s Star Turn in BHG Magazines

It’s a day filled with exhilarating chaos and creative energy here at Casa Petersik, a whirlwind we wouldn’t trade for anything! Our home is buzzing with activity as a professional photography crew from none other than BHG (Better Homes & Gardens) has descended upon us. They’re here to capture the vibrant transformations we’ve meticulously poured our hearts into: our newly transformed nursery and our recently renovated bathroom. These stunning spaces are being photographed for not one, but two prestigious publications: Kitchen + Bath Makeovers and Do It Yourself Magazine. The excitement is palpable; we are absolutely thrilled and genuinely geeked out about this incredible opportunity to share our design journey with a wider audience. This feature isn’t just a photoshoot; it’s a testament to months of planning, hard work, and creative vision finally coming to fruition, ready to inspire countless readers.

The Magic Makers: Collaborating with a Talented Crew

Witnessing the stylists work their undeniable magic is truly one of the highlights of these photoshoots. It’s fascinating how they orchestrate every detail, turning everyday objects into art. Seriously, how do they manage to make a simple bottle of hand soap look so utterly chic and inviting on a countertop? It’s an art form in itself, a careful balance of composition, texture, and light that elevates the entire space. We’re also incredibly fortunate to be working with a familiar face: the talented photographer Erik Johnson. Erik is no stranger to our home; he previously shot the rest of our house a while back for a comprehensive three-issue article series in Do It Yourself Magazine. Those features were a huge milestone for us, and you can revisit them here, here, and here. There’s a comforting familiarity in collaborating with a team that already knows the ins and outs of our style and our home’s best angles. In fact, here’s a throwback photo of us with Erik and the rest of the fantastic crew from that memorable shoot of yore. It serves as a sweet reminder of past adventures and the incredible people we’ve had the pleasure of working with. (Side note to self: So THAT’S what my thighs looked like back then! I haven’t really seen them in months. Though, with this baby bump, I suspect they might not quite look like that anymore… ah, the joys of impending motherhood!)

Navigating Life’s Deadlines: Baby Bump and Magazine Features

And speaking of the baby bump, my personal mantra for the entire day has been a quiet, insistent whisper: “Don’t go into labor yet, don’t go into labor yet.” Of course, with over two weeks still remaining until my official due date, there’s logically no immediate reason why I would suddenly go into labor. In fact, we’re secretly betting I’ll likely be fashionably late, just like the delivery of some of our favorite renovation supplies! But you know how you sometimes have that one critical deadline in your brain, an event or commitment that you simply *have* to get past before anything else can happen? Well, this photoshoot is absolutely that crucial point for me right now. It’s a convergence of two incredibly significant life events – the imminent arrival of our little one and the opportunity to showcase our hard work in national publications. I am utterly committed to soaking in every single moment of this professional photoshoot magic. From observing the intricate staging techniques to peeking behind the scenes at the technical wizardry, every detail is fascinating. It’s not every day your home gets this kind of star treatment, and I wouldn’t want to miss a second of it, especially after all the effort we’ve poured into these spaces. The dedication of the entire crew, from the photographers to the stylists, is truly inspiring, and I’m eager to learn all the tricks of the trade!

Unveiling the Unexpected: Behind-the-Scenes Insights

The world of magazine publishing and professional home photography is full of fascinating, sometimes quirky, details that one wouldn’t expect from the glossy pages. For instance, did you know that even our furry family members need to sign official release forms? That’s right! Look closely, and you’ll see our beloved canine companion’s official consent form. It’s a testament to the meticulous planning and legal considerations that go into every major magazine feature. This small, often overlooked detail really underscores the professionalism and comprehensive nature of these large-scale shoots. It’s not just about snapping beautiful pictures; it’s about ensuring every aspect, from human talent to pet models, is properly documented and cleared. It’s these little glimpses behind the curtain that truly reveal the intricate workings of the magazine industry and how much goes into creating those perfect, aspirational images we all love to pore over.

And then there’s the essential role of fresh flowers. They are, quite simply, par for the course – an absolute necessity in the world of professional styling. It doesn’t matter if the rooms being captured are a functional bathroom or a cozy nursery; vibrant, fresh blooms add an undeniable touch of life, color, and sophistication. A carefully arranged bouquet can instantly elevate a space, making it feel more welcoming, luxurious, and visually appealing. The subtle fragrance and organic texture of fresh flowers contribute significantly to the overall aesthetic, providing that final, polished touch that transforms a beautifully designed room into a magazine-ready masterpiece. They inject a burst of natural beauty and softness, making the spaces feel lived-in yet impeccably styled. It’s a styling secret that always works wonders, and seeing them integrated into our home adds another layer of charm to the already stunning decor.

From Personal Spaces to Polished Pages: The Art of the Magazine Makeover

It’s always an incredibly fun and insightful experience to observe how professional stylists subtly tweak and enhance our rooms. They possess an innate ability to bring out the best in every corner, giving our cherished spaces that undeniable, glossy “I’m-ready-for-my-close-up” attitude. These aren’t major overhauls; rather, they are artistic adjustments, thoughtful placements, and strategic lighting choices that transform a comfortable home into a picture-perfect setting. If you’re curious to delve deeper into these fascinating behind-the-scenes techniques, we’ve shared plenty of insider tips from our previous experiences. You can check out this old post, packed full of valuable behind-the-scenes tricks we learned from our last Do It Yourself shoot. For even more candid revelations and “dirty details” from a truly epic professional shoot, don’t miss this detailed writeup about our big photo session with The Nest Magazine last year. We absolutely loved sharing those insights, and we promise to share even more backstage secrets, styling tips, and perhaps even some DIY decor advice gleaned from this current adventure, as soon as we’re able to. Until then, the unofficial name of the game for me is strategically keeping my baby belly out of the shot. And when you have a glorious 43-inch circumference, let me tell you, that’s actually quite a challenging feat! It requires nimble movements and a good sense of humor, all while trying to look effortlessly chic.
