When Anna sent photos of her family room redo, we were excited to share this dramatic before-and-after transformation with fans of home makeovers. Here’s what she told us:
I thought you might like pictures of my 1960s step-down family room re-do. The biggest improvements were removing the textured ceiling and replacing the carpet with wide-plank engineered wood flooring, which could be installed directly over the concrete slab. We weren’t ready to paint the fireplace, but removing the dark paneling and making a few targeted updates brightened the space and made it truly livable. The etageres beside the fireplace were found on clearance at JC Penney after spotting them on your site. The pillows and rugs came from Target, and the white chair was a thrift-store find that I spray painted and reupholstered with a new cushion. I’m still hunting for a coffee table that feels right, but the room already feels so much better. – Anna
Here’s the dark, dated before:

And the fresh, bright after images:

It’s amazing that a chair that once looked like this…

…was transformed into this showstopper with a coat of spray paint and a new fabric cushion.

The result is clean, inviting, and full of personality—proof that a few thoughtful changes can completely renew a room. Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos, Anna. Expect a few of us to be hunting for a similar quatrefoil chair on Craigslist!
