Life has a remarkable way of evolving, and here at Young House Love, we’ve found ourselves deep in contemplation about the profound shifts on the horizon. With the eagerly anticipated arrival of the littlest Petersik just weeks away, our thoughts naturally turn to the future – not just of our family, but also of this beloved blog. How will we sustain our creative endeavors and connect with our incredible community once a tiny, yet undeniably significant, new family member requires our boundless love and attention? This question has been a driving force behind our recent strategic discussions, leading us to concoct innovative approaches to balance every precious aspect of our lives: our relationship, our baby, our cherished blog, and of course, our loyal canine companion, Burger.
Our commitment to this home improvement adventure remains as strong as ever. We feel incredibly fortunate to have cultivated this hobby and passion into a full-time career for Sherry, a journey that has been nothing short of extraordinary. Before I delve deeper into our exciting new plans, I must pause to express our profound gratitude: THANK YOU. Your unwavering encouragement, steadfast support, and delightful humor on a daily basis have made this dream a tangible reality. It is your engagement that allows us to continue sharing our home renovation projects and decorating tips, transforming houses into homes, one DIY at a time. For those curious about Sherry’s path from enthusiastic hobbyist to full-time blogger, you can read more about her inspiring transition right here.

However, with the impending arrival of a newborn, we are not naive about the realities of parenthood. We understand the immense dedication, time, and emotional energy that caring for a new baby demands. The sheer volume of love and attention required by Baby P could easily become a full-time occupation for Sherry alone. In light of this, we realized that maintaining our previous blogging rhythm – a two-post-a-day habit, coordinating weekly giveaways, and consistently tackling ambitious DIY projects – would be an unsustainable stretch. This realization prompted a significant family discussion, involving countless hours of careful consideration and meticulous planning. Our primary goal was to ensure the continued growth of Young House Love while prioritizing our growing family. After much deliberation, we reached a pivotal decision that will undoubtedly reshape our future. The verdict? We are charging forward with Young House Love full force, and to ensure we can continue to deliver the quality content and inspiration you’ve come to expect, we’ll be bringing on a second full-time employee to assist with both baby and blog duties. This strategic expansion is designed to foster a more sustainable work-life integration for our family, allowing us to embrace parenthood fully without compromising our creative passion. Any guesses as to who this game-changing new team member might be?
I know what many of you might be thinking – perhaps you’re crossing your fingers, hoping it’s our diligent little assistant, Burger! He certainly is a hard worker, always ready to lend a paw or offer moral support during our most challenging renovation projects. His dedication to sniffing out new adventures and his unwavering companionship have always been a source of joy and amusement for us and our readers.

But while Burger’s contributions are invaluable, the exciting truth is, the new full-time employee is… me! That’s right. Once Baby P makes her grand entrance, I will be bidding a bittersweet farewell to my career as an 8-to-6 advertising professional, transitioning into the incredibly rewarding roles of full-time father and dedicated blogger. This career pivot marks a profound moment for our family, and for that, I feel an overwhelming sense of blessing and gratitude. So, once again, a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you. It’s no secret that I’ve already been dedicating upwards of 20+ hours a week to keeping this blog thriving, often on top of my demanding full-time job. However, with the invaluable time we will gain from my being at home during the day, we are absolutely confident that we can more effectively juggle the demands of the blog, the joys of parenthood, and the various facets of our personal lives. This strategic shift isn’t just about managing tasks; it’s about investing more deeply in both our family and our shared passion. In fact, we have ambitious plans for Young House Love once I transition to full-time, promising even more exciting content, innovative DIY projects, and engaging stories in the coming months. Stay tuned, because the action around here is only just beginning!
My new dual role as a full-time father and blogger carries significant implications, both for our family dynamics and for the future trajectory of Young House Love. The most immediate and perhaps most cherished benefit is the obvious: I will be here, seven days a week, to tag-team both the loving care of our “beanette” and the creative work of the blog alongside Sherry. This collaborative approach means we can nurture each of them – our baby and our blog – as one big, hopefully very happy, family. This shared responsibility is incredibly important to us, fostering a sense of partnership in both parenting and our professional endeavors. But beyond the day-to-day balance, my new role also brings a thrilling new project to the forefront of our to-do list. That’s right, Casa Petersik is officially getting a bona fide two-person home office! This dedicated workspace is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity for our evolving lifestyle, designed to support our increased collaborative efforts and ensure both productivity and harmony within our home.
Up until now, all of my blogging efforts – typically late nights and weekends – have been relegated to the dining room table, while Sherry has comfortably settled into her own creative nook in the den. This arrangement, while functional for a time, has presented its challenges, particularly when it comes to maintaining clear boundaries between work and family life. With both of us now working from home full-time, a more permanent and designated workspace becomes absolutely essential. Reclaiming our dining table will allow it to return to its intended purpose as a family gathering spot, fostering more intentional moments together. Furthermore, minimizing room-to-room shouting for quick questions or shared ideas will undoubtedly enhance our efficiency and reduce household noise. There is immense value in a designated work area; it helps to clearly delineate work zones from play zones, a crucial element for maintaining that often-fragile, yet incredibly important, work/life balance. This intentional separation of space allows for greater focus during work hours and more mindful relaxation during personal time, preventing the lines from blurring excessively.

So, if you haven’t already deduced it through a process of elimination, our brand-new home office will be taking over our current guest bedroom. This decision comes with its own unique set of design challenges and creative opportunities. With our other guest bedroom already transformed into Baby P’s nursery, it’s imperative that this new office space remains 100% guest-friendly. Yes, that means it must comfortably sleep at least two people, just as it always has, ensuring our friends and family always have a welcoming place to stay. However, this room also needs to accommodate two working bloggers, our precious wee one, and our playful nine-pound pooch, Burger. Beyond these occupants, we need to efficiently store all sorts of paperwork, blogging equipment, and creative supplies without the space looking overly corporate or sterile for our overnight guests. Oh yes, we will be walking an incredibly delicate line in there, balancing aesthetics with functionality, all while attempting to squeeze every last ounce of utility out of this surprisingly tiny 10′ x 10.5′ space. This project truly embodies the spirit of small space design, pushing us to innovate and think creatively about every inch.

And did we mention that we’d also like this space to multitask as a playroom of sorts for Baby P? Since she’ll undoubtedly be spending a significant amount of time in there with us as we do our blogging “thang,” integrating a child-friendly area is a must. If we didn’t mention it before, well, add that to the already extensive list of requirements! This means considering not just adult ergonomics and guest comfort, but also safety, accessibility, and engaging elements for a baby. We envision a space where Baby P can play safely and happily while we work, fostering a close family environment even during productive hours. This triple-duty room – a functional workspace for two, a comfortable haven for guests, and a stimulating play zone for our baby – is certainly going to be a doozie to design and execute. It will demand clever storage solutions, flexible furniture, and a seamless blend of aesthetics and practicality. But honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. The challenge of creating such a versatile and integrated space excites us, and we are eager to share every step of the transformation. So, stay tuned for the play-by-play as we embark on this ambitious project to fully reconfigure this soon-to-be ultimate multi-purpose room into a space that truly serves for work, play, and welcoming overnight guests.
As we dive headfirst into this exciting design challenge, we would absolutely love to hear from our amazing community. Your collective wisdom and experience are invaluable to us!
