When Meghan Carter came to interview us, we pulled out all the stops to make our home look its best. Small details can make a big impression, so we set out a tidy assortment of apples in our clam-shell fruit bowl, replaced towels in every bathroom, and even did a quick spot-clean for good measure. Instead of bringing in formal floral arrangements, we leaned on lush leafy greenery from our yard to complement our simple neutral palette—it’s fresh, abundant, and just steps outside our door.
We snipped a few ferns and tucked them into bud vases for the bathrooms, which added a subtle, natural touch without overwhelming the small spaces:
For the living room we gathered larger leafy branches to fill oversized glass bottles, which creates a bold yet effortless focal point and brings a touch of the outdoors inside.
Those green branches look especially striking against our red front door—complementary colors really make each element pop.
Do you have rituals for preparing your home for guests? Any budget-friendly decorating tricks—like using branches and twigs from your yard—to share? We’d love to hear what works for you.
