Some of you have asked how Burger is settling into the new house. The short answer: great. If you want a slightly more fanciful answer: absolutely splendid.
It only took him a day or two to find his food bowl and to learn which door to wait at when he needs to go out. Otherwise, he’s been having a blast exploring and re-discovering favorite spots. Below are a few snapshots from the past two months that show how much he loves the new casa.
This photo was taken soon after the move. He quickly claimed this sun-warmed corner of the living room rug and liked to park himself there every morning.
It became part of his daily GTL routine – growl, tan, lick. Yes, we watch Jersey Shore because it’s my wife’s home state.
That routine has been disrupted a bit by the arrival of Karl the sectional, which blocks the sunspot, but Burger has found several new sunny locations lately, including the windowsill. He’s such a cat sometimes. Here he’s curled up on Clara’s hospital blanket; we brought it home so he could get used to her scent and now it’s his official “blankie.”
Sometimes he moves his lounging onto one of our laps, which is a win-win on a cold morning.
Occasionally he even “helps” supervise Clara during playtime, though he tends to sleep on the job. If he hears a noise outside, though, he’s instantly alert. See what I did there? I replaced a certain naughty word with “howl.”
When he’s not campaigning for the laziest chihuahua title, he performs his version of “quality control” by testing new purchases. For example, he tried out our new duvet:
He also sampled the new sectional pillows even before the sectional arrived — we tossed them on the sleeper sofa in the office and Burger took them for a test ride.
He still finds time to play, usually with his favorite toy, Divalectible. It was actually a gift for Clara, but Burger claimed it quickly. Don’t judge the name — it’s the toy’s Beanie Baby name and somehow it stuck. And yes, Sherry makes a weird excited noise to get him to come running; it’s an “excited dolphin” call and it works every time.
Unsurprisingly, Burger spends a lot of his days under the covers, so despite the new house he’s very much the same ol’ Burger.
That’s what our oldest kiddo has been up to when he’s not “supervising” while we paint or demo around the house. Life’s good when you’re an eight-pound chihuahua.
Psst—if all goes well we might have another post today or tomorrow. We’ve finally started making progress on the guest bedroom with just six days until the in-laws arrive, so we’re likely working away as you read this. And Burger’s probably supervising.
