How to Create a Beautiful Bouquet Using Backyard Flowers

I’m back to share my monthly grocery-store bouquet—a sweet little tradition from the hubs. This month’s bouquet didn’t come from the store at all. We didn’t splurge on a florist; instead we wandered into our own backyard and clipped a dozen giant wild irises that have been popping up among the old boxwoods. Zero dollars, zero fuss. Here they are brightening the sunroom:

Those little green glass votive holders are actually holding some of last month’s grocery-store flowers that are still going strong a month later. I love how the green glass complements the purple irises—such an effortless color pairing.

Possibly the best part of this bouquet is the scent: a sweet, lavender-like aroma that reminds me of a sugar cookie. Each clipping still has several buds waiting to open, so the arrangement will get fuller and even more fragrant over the next few days.

We owe a big thank-you to the previous homeowner who planted these bulbs years ago. Every spring they return in generous, lovely clusters without any feeding or fuss from us. This year it’s a treat to bring a few inside and enjoy them as a simple, free decoration—backyard blooms really are one of the best no-cost ways to brighten a room.
