Lately I’ve noticed glass-front cabinets getting a fresh update: the backs of the cabinets are dressed up with decorative finishes. Some are lined with wallpaper, others with beadboard, some are upholstered, and many are simply painted. After living with our own glass-front cabinet for a while, we decided to try this look ourselves.
In about two hours I painted the back of our corner cabinet in the same beachy blue-gray used on our walls. I left the shelves white and painted only the back panel to preserve strong contrast and make white plates and dishes stand out against the new, moody backdrop. The project was quick, inexpensive, and totally worth the effort — subtle, sweet, and surprisingly transformative. Here’s a closer look:
