Here’s a simple, budget-friendly idea in the same spirit as our vacation jars and framed key art: save a postcard from each trip and write one to yourselves. The idea came from my husband early in our relationship. While addressing a few postcards home, he suggested we keep one for ourselves to capture a few favorite memories from the trip—small details we’d likely forget over time.
We loved the idea and turned it into a lasting tradition. Over the years we’ve collected postcards from many trips, and it’s become a lovely way to revisit moments—our best meals, funny sightseeing misadventures, or the little things that made a place special. Instead of storing them away in a box, I suggested displaying them in an old vase we had from our wedding (it originally held guest cards). Leaving them on display makes it easy to pull a postcard out, read it, and remember a trip, which keeps our travel memories alive and fuels excitement for the next adventure.

The project is incredibly low-cost: a postcard and a stamp are all you need. Next time you’re on vacation, pick up a card, jot down a few highlights, and tuck it away in a jar or vase. It’s an easy, meaningful way to collect memories and create a growing display of your travels. Bon voyage!
