The keys are handed over, the last box is loaded, and the final sweep has been made. It’s a moment of profound reflection and, let’s be honest, utter exhaustion. We’ve finally managed to compile the promised photos of our old house, now beautifully vacant and pristine, awaiting its new owners. And yes, these images come to you courtesy of a Panera booth and their much-needed WiFi, as our own internet at the new place won’t be connected until tomorrow. Such is the chaotic charm of moving day!
Yesterday was a whirlwind, a day we had sincerely hoped would bring more definitive updates for all of you. However, as anyone who has navigated the complexities of a “domino” closing can attest, it’s rarely a straightforward affair. For those unfamiliar, a domino closing involves a precise sequence: selling your current home, waiting for the funds to clear, and then immediately closing on your new home, often all within the same day. It’s a logistical ballet that requires perfect timing and a bit of luck. Our buyers encountered an unexpected delay, which, in turn, cascaded into our own closing schedule, preventing us from finalizing everything yesterday. Thankfully, with a sigh of relief, we closed first thing this morning.
Despite the initial hiccup, the kindness of strangers shone through. The previous owners of our new house, understanding our predicament – a moving truck full of our entire lives and nowhere to sleep – graciously passed along the keys anyway. Their empathy was a true blessing, and we are eternally grateful for their understanding. As if the closing drama wasn’t enough, Mother Nature decided to add her own unique challenge: a surprise snowstorm. This wasn’t just a picturesque snowfall; it added a significant layer of adventure (and a fair bit of difficulty) to the already Herculean task of physically moving our belongings from one home to another. More on that snowy saga will definitely follow!

After what felt like an endless marathon of unpacking boxes, trying to settle our little one, Clara (our “bean”), and our beloved dog, Burger (the “pooch”), we finally collapsed onto our mattress on the floor around 1 AM. Sleep was a distant dream for a while, as a profound sense of accomplishment and sheer joy washed over us. Even in our state of utter exhaustion, the smiles were permanent. There’s an unparalleled magic to spending that very first night in your new home, a sense of fresh beginnings and boundless potential. And thankfully, it seemed Clara and Burger felt the same way. They’ve proven to be absolute “varsity adjusters” to this entire whirlwind experience, taking everything in stride, which has been a huge comfort.
We’re bursting with stories about the epic moving day itself and can’t wait to share the first glimpses of our new house with you. We’re hoping to get those details and images together for you later this afternoon! But for now, let’s take a moment to savor the final look at our former residence, affectionately known as Casa Petersik. These photos offer a poignant “first-day-as-compared-to-last-day” glory, showcasing its transformation and the quiet dignity of its empty spaces. First, let’s revisit the old exterior, providing a perfect comparison to the snowy departure photo you saw above:

Stepping inside, the living room was one of the first spaces to welcome us into this home years ago. It was a blank canvas, full of light and potential, a testament to the dreams we harbored for our life here. We remembered it filled with the hustle and bustle of family life, the joy of holiday decorations, and the quiet comfort of movie nights. This room witnessed countless first steps, endless playtime, and heartwarming conversations. It was the heart of our home, a space for both lively gatherings and peaceful reflection.

And here’s what it looked like when we closed that door for the final time. Empty, yet still echoing with memories. The bare walls and polished floors speak of a chapter concluded, ready for new inhabitants to imprint their own stories. It’s a bittersweet sight, seeing the space so quiet after so many vibrant years.

The kitchen, oh the kitchen! This was the culinary hub, the central gathering spot where countless meals were prepared, birthday cakes were baked, and homework was often spread across the countertops. When we first arrived, it had a particular charm that we enhanced over time, making it truly our own. We remember long conversations over morning coffee and the joyful chaos of holiday feasts. It was a space that always smelled of something delicious, a place where family converged naturally.

And now, it stands empty, pristine, and ready for new culinary adventures. It’s hard to imagine it without our family’s daily rhythms, but we hope it brings as much joy and deliciousness to the new owners as it did to us. The clean lines and clear countertops invite imagination, a fresh start for a new family.

The den was our cozy retreat, a room that served many purposes throughout our tenure. Initially, it was a space for quiet reading and evening television, a place to unwind after a long day. We remember its comfortable ambiance, filled with soft light and our favorite furnishings. It evolved with our family, becoming a place for toys and imaginative play as Clara grew, a true multi-functional room that adapted to our changing needs. It was always a favorite spot for Burger to nap in a sunbeam.

The den as we left it is a testament to the care we put into every corner of this house. Stripped of its contents, the room reveals its true architecture, a bright and inviting space ready for the next family to personalize. It feels lighter now, almost expectant, waiting for new memories to be made within its walls. We hope it becomes as cherished a space for its next occupants as it was for us.

The master bedroom was our sanctuary, a space for rest and rejuvenation. When we first moved in, it was a simple, functional room, but over the years, we transformed it into a true haven. It was where we started and ended each day, a private retreat from the world. We remember quiet mornings, lazy weekends, and the comforting feeling of being in our own space. It was a room that held our most private moments and deepest sleeps.

And now, the master bedroom stands serenely empty, a blank slate for its new inhabitants. It looks peaceful, almost waiting for new dreams to be dreamt within its walls. Seeing it so clear brings a sense of closure, knowing that we poured our love and energy into creating a comfortable home.

This next room was a true chameleon during our time here – it served as an office, a guest bedroom for visiting family and friends, and eventually, a vibrant playroom for Clara. Each iteration brought new life and purpose to the space. We recall late nights working, warm welcomes for guests, and the joyful sounds of Clara’s playtime. It adapted perfectly to our evolving needs, proving to be one of the most versatile rooms in the house.

And that room now, stripped back to its essence, highlights its enduring versatility. It’s ready for its next transformation, whether it’s another home office, a cozy guest room, or a space for new children to play and grow. We leave it with fond memories of its many roles.

Here’s the room that was a formal dining room when we first moved in. It was a beautiful space, but as our family grew, our needs shifted. We found ourselves gravitating towards more casual dining, and the opportunity arose to convert this elegant space into something even more special and essential for our family.

That we ultimately left as Clara’s nursery. This room became a sanctuary of comfort and joy, a place filled with lullabies and the soft coos of our daughter. It was one of the last rooms to be emptied, and we carefully removed Clara’s beloved light fixture and curtains – the only lights and curtains we simply couldn’t bear to leave behind. They hold too many precious memories to part with. This transformation from a formal space to a cozy nursery truly reflects the evolution of our family in this home.

And finally, the sunroom. When we first moved in, it was a bright, airy space, full of natural light, offering a lovely connection to the outdoors. We knew instantly it would be a favorite spot for relaxation and enjoyment, a perfect extension of our living space. (Apologies for the terrible angle in this initial shot – we had no idea back then that we’d eventually need a perfect “before” picture for a sentimental blog post like this!).

And here’s the sunroom as we left it – gleaming, expansive, and ready to capture new sunbeams for its next family. It still emanates that wonderful, bright energy, perfect for reading, relaxing, or simply enjoying the view. It’s a room that always felt like a little slice of paradise.

So, while it was undeniably a little sad to finally close that door on our old house (and believe it or not, I actually managed not to cry!), there was an overwhelming sense of joy and incredible wonder in opening a new door – both literally and figuratively – to our new house. This move marks not just a change of address, but the exciting start of a brand new chapter in our lives. We couldn’t be more thrilled to share this next adventure with all of you, our amazing community. Keep an eye out for more pictures, fresh details, and all the juicy stories from our new abode, as soon as we can sling ’em your way! The journey continues, and we’re so glad you’re here for it.
Psst- Oh, a quick note to ourselves! We absolutely need to update our website. That means changing our header and rebranding the “House Tour” tab to “Old House” – and, of course, adding a brand new “New House” section, complete with all the ‘before’ shots. Here’s hoping we can carve out a moment to tackle that in the next few hectic days… wish us luck!
