Your Free Annual Planner

In the rush of the holiday season and the looming promise of a new year, it’s easy to feel perpetually behind. Projects pile up, inboxes overflow, and the simple act of staying organized can seem like an insurmountable task. Yet, amidst this delightful chaos, our family has a cherished tradition that, by some small miracle, we’ve managed to stay ahead of: creating our annual homemade calendar. This isn’t just a simple date-keeper; it’s a vibrant, personalized reflection of our year, infused with warmth and family memories, designed to bring a smile with every passing month.

The Heart of Our Home: A Personalized Family Calendar Tradition

For half a decade now, this tradition has been a cornerstone of our seasonal preparations. What started as a simple, colorful creation in Photoshop has evolved into a beloved yearly project. We’ve heard from many of you, including loyal readers like Lauren and Alexandra, who eagerly anticipate each year’s release. Knowing that many of you rely on our customizable template for a thoughtful, last-minute gift or a unique addition to your own home makes us incredibly proud to announce: the 2014 calendar is complete and ready to share!

While Sherry’s desktop planner remains our go-to for daily notes and detailed scheduling, our homemade calendar serves a different, more sentimental purpose. It’s a monthly “warm & fuzzy” overview, a charming visual guide that allows us to quickly check dates, countdown to special events, and simply enjoy a curated collection of our favorite family moments. Each year, we carefully inject elements that are deeply meaningful to us. In 2010, we filled it with cherished inside jokes. 2011 saw us documenting fun family stats, while 2012 was dedicated to adorable photos of Clara. By 2013, we’d refined our approach, creating a delightful hybrid of these beloved elements, always striving to make each calendar unique yet distinctly ‘us’.

The Evolution of Our DIY Calendar: Embracing New Ideas for 2014

Our 2013 calendar, with its perfect pairing of Instagram photos and hilarious Clara quotes, was such a hit that we decided to revisit the concept for 2014. However, we weren’t just repeating ourselves; we completely reimagined the design, infusing it with fresh aesthetics and enhanced functionality. A significant change this year was designing around a standard 8.5 x 11-inch sheet of paper. This seemingly small adjustment brings a host of benefits for you, our users. It eliminates the need for any trimming or cutting, making the assembly process quicker and simpler. More importantly, it allowed us to allocate more space and functionality to the actual date sections of the calendar, ensuring it’s both beautiful and practical.

The increased size of the calendar pages also provided ample room for larger pictures, specifically a generous 4 x 4-inch photo slot. This particular dimension is a standard print size offered by popular photo printing services like Snapstagram or PicPlum. This means you don’t have to rely solely on your home printer, especially if you’re seeking professional-grade photo quality. For just a few dollars (typically around $6), you can order high-quality, real prints that perfectly fit into your calendar. This year, we’re taking advantage of this option ourselves. To prepare, we’ve printed all our calendar pages with simple gray placeholder boxes, patiently awaiting the arrival of our professionally printed photos from Snapstagram. This approach ensures our cherished memories are displayed in the best possible light, making our calendar not just a functional item but a true work of art.

Your Customizable Calendar Template: Crafting Memories with Ease

As is our tradition, we’re thrilled to share our meticulously designed template with you. Our goal this year was to simplify the customization process, making it more accessible and user-friendly, even for those new to DIY projects. We’ve intentionally reduced the number of layers in the Photoshop file, streamlining the editing experience. Here’s how you can make this unique calendar your own:

  1. If you’re comfortable with .PSD files and have access to Photoshop, you can download our editable Photoshop version. This template comes with ready-to-edit text fields in the quote area, allowing you to personalize every message. To ensure proper display, you may need to download two specific fonts: Adamas and Multicolore. These fonts add a stylish and consistent look, enhancing the overall aesthetic of your finished calendar. Instructions for installing fonts are typically straightforward and can be found with a quick online search for your operating system.
  2. For those who prefer a simpler, more hands-on approach or don’t have Photoshop, we offer a printable PDF version. In this edition, the quote area is left completely blank, providing the perfect canvas for your own handwriting. You can pen down inside jokes, inspiring quotes, important reminders, or personal messages, giving each month a truly unique and artisanal touch. This option is fantastic for those who appreciate the charm of a handmade aesthetic and the personal touch of their own script.

Regardless of which version you choose, the magic truly comes alive when you integrate your personal photographs. You can either digitally insert your chosen 4 x 4-inch images into the template (for the Photoshop version) or, like us, print out actual 4 x 4-inch photos and adhere them to each calendar page. This physical act of adding photos transforms the calendar into a tangible scrapbook of memories, making it a wonderful keepsake for years to come. Consider using high-quality cardstock for printing your calendar pages to give it a more substantial and premium feel.

A Glimpse into Our 2014: Our Favorite Quotes and Photos

For a little inspiration and just for fun, we wanted to share a sneak peek into our own 2014 calendar. Here’s a look at some of the delightful quotes and heartwarming photos we selected for each of our twelve months. Curating these memories each year is a joy, and Clara, our endlessly quotable source of humor, always provides ample material. It almost makes us wish there were more months in the year just to include more of her gems! And, frankly, it might give me a bit more time to squeeze in an extra shower or two.

Designing Your Year: What Are Your Calendar Preferences?

As we embark on a new year, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on how we organize our days and cherish our memories. What are your personal calendar plans for 2014? Do you have a trusted go-to source or a favorite brand you return to every year? Perhaps you lean towards a purely functional planner, packed with ample space for scribbling appointments, to-do lists, and detailed notes. Or maybe you prefer a more decorative wall calendar, designed primarily for a quick glance to check dates and add a touch of charm to your living space. Are you one of the many who are 100% electronic, with every event, reminder, and special date meticulously stored and managed on your smartphone or tablet? Or do you, like us, find yourself somewhere comfortably in between, appreciating both the digital convenience and the tangible joy of a physical, personalized calendar?
